Gili Trawangan is the largest of Lombok's Gili Islands and the only one to rise significantly (60 m) above sea level. Measuring 3 km long and 2 km wide, it has a population of around 1500 habitants.The name Trawangan originates from the Indonesian word Terowongan which means Tunnel due to the presence of a cave tunnel built there during Japanese occupation in World War 2.
Transportation from Bali Lombok can be arranged by air or by speedboat. For those who do not love the boat, you can take a 20mn flight departing from Denpasar to Lombok. The you arrive in Lombok where you can take a taxi for 1h30, the crossing is worth a look! It will cost you around 700.000rp. Then you should hire a speed boat from 2 till 8 people 950.000rp. At the arrival on the island, our team will be there to welcome you and take you to the resort. You will need to pay 150.000rp cidomo (caleche) to get at the villa. The cidomo can take up to 3 persons with luggages.
In Gili Trawangan (as well as the other two Gilis), there are no motors vehicles. main transportation are bicycles and cidomo (a small wagon pulled by horses). To travel to and from each of the Gilis, locals usually use motorized boats.
