The place

The north shore

Gili Trawangan is the largest of the three Gili Islands, off the north-west coast of Lombok and a few hours from the bustle of Bali. The resort sits on its northern beach, the picturesque and peaceful side of the island.

There are no motor vehicles here. You get around on foot, by bicycle or by cidomo, the island’s horse cart. The philosophy is simple: forget civilisation for the length of a holiday and enjoy simple pleasures.

No cars, no motorbikes and, most days, no shoes.

A reef in front of the house

The marine park around the Gilis has some of the best snorkelling and scuba diving in Indonesia. Halik Reef begins in front of our beach: green and hawksbill turtles live on it, among hundreds of species of reef fish.

We lend you masks, snorkels and fins. For scuba, the dive centre next to the resort has all the equipment and takes you to the sites around the three islands.

FAQ

Questions about your stay on Gili Trawangan

Where is The Gili Beach Resort?

The Gili Beach Resort is on the quiet north beach of Gili Trawangan, the largest of the three Gili Islands (Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air), off the north-west coast of Lombok in Indonesia. The villas face the sea and Halik Reef, a few minutes by bicycle from the island’s harbour and its main street.

How do I get to Gili Trawangan from Bali or Lombok?

From Bali, fast boats cross directly to the Gili Islands. You can also fly from Denpasar to Lombok; from Lombok airport it is about an hour and a half by road to the harbour, then a short boat crossing to Gili Trawangan.

There are no cars on the island: our team meets you when you land and brings you and your luggage to the villa by cidomo, the local horse cart. Send us your arrival details and we will help you organise the transfer.

How many guests can stay in a villa?

Each villa is rented whole and has four bedrooms for up to eight guests. The three villas can be booked together for a family gathering, a group of friends or a retreat of up to 24 people.

What is included in the stay?

Breakfast prepared in the villa every morning, daily housekeeping, Wi-Fi, and masks, snorkels and fins lent free of charge. Bicycles can be arranged on request, and the manager can organise boat trips to Gili Meno, Gili Air or Lombok.

Can you snorkel with turtles in front of the villas?

Yes. Halik Reef begins in front of our beach on the north-east side of Gili Trawangan, and green and hawksbill turtles feed there most days. A dive centre next to the resort runs scuba dives to the best sites around the three Gilis.

When is the best time to visit the Gili Islands?

The Gili Islands are warm all year, between 27 °C and 30 °C. The dry season, from April to November, brings the calmest sea and the clearest water. July, August and the Christmas holidays are the busiest weeks, so book early for those dates.
