What to know before you come to Gili Trawangan: how to get here, how to get around and what to do once the shoes are off.
Gili Trawangan is the largest of Lombok’s three Gili Islands and the only one to rise noticeably above sea level, to about 60 m. It measures roughly 3 km by 2 km.
The name comes from the Indonesian word terowongan, tunnel, after a cave tunnel built on the island during the Japanese occupation in the Second World War.
From Bali you can come by sea or by air. Fast boats cross directly to the Gili Islands. If you would rather not take the boat, a short flight links Denpasar to Lombok; from the airport it is about an hour and a half by road to the harbour, then a short speedboat crossing to Trawangan.
When you land on the island, our team is there to welcome you and take you to the resort. Luggage and guests travel by cidomo; one cart takes up to three people with their bags.

There are no motor vehicles on Gili Trawangan, nor on the two other Gilis. People travel by bicycle, on foot or by cidomo, a small cart pulled by a horse.
Local boats link the three islands. If you would like to have lunch or snorkel on another island, our manager can arrange a fishing boat or a speedboat for the day.
Several very good dive sites are within minutes of our beach. You can organise your dives with the centre next to the resort, which has all the equipment you need.
Breakfast is prepared for you in the villa every morning. The resort does not serve other meals: you can cook in your kitchen, have dishes delivered from nearby restaurants, or walk to them and eat by the sea.
In the centre of the island, several well-known restaurants grill the fish of the day in the evening.
Indonesia is tropical, and temperatures here stay between 27 °C and 30 °C (80 to 86 °F) all year. The dry season runs from April to November. Evenings can be cool in July and August, so pack a light layer.
On the island: horse riding, stand-up paddle, yoga, Indonesian cooking classes, and long walks along the beach or through the coconut grove.
For more adventure, spend a day on Lombok. Visit a Sasak village, swim under the waterfalls or see the monkey forest. Those with energy to spare can climb Mount Rinjani, Lombok’s volcano.
The currency is the Indonesian rupiah. Keep some cash for small purchases, boats and cidomo rides.
Entry rules depend on your nationality: some visitors need a visa in advance, some can obtain one on arrival and some need none. Your passport must be valid for at least six months after your arrival date.

Electricity is 220 volts, 50 Hz. Loose, casual clothing is all you need.
